Collection: Learn How They Work

In a Home Composter

Our mailers are designed to break down naturally in a backyard compost bin.

With the right mix of heat, moisture, oxygen, and microbes, they begin decomposing within weeks.

In most home compost conditions, they fully break down into organic matter, water, and CO₂ within 3–6 months.

What’s left behind? Healthy compost you can use to nourish your garden — with zero toxic residue.

In an Industrial Composting Facility

Industrial composters reach higher temperatures and maintain controlled airflow.

This speeds up the breakdown process significantly.

In these conditions, Earthly Essence mailers typically compost fully in about 90–120 days.

Facilities ensure complete decomposition, leaving behind only safe, soil-enriching organic material.

In a Landfill

Landfills are designed to minimize oxygen and moisture, which slows down all decomposition — even for food and paper.

While our mailers will eventually break down, the process takes much longer than in composting conditions.

The good news: even in a landfill, they don’t release microplastics or harmful toxins like plastic mailers do.

And whenever possible, we encourage composting or industrial disposal for the fastest, most planet-friendly breakdown.

In short: Whether in your backyard, a facility, or even a landfill, Earthly Essence mailers return safely to the earth — without leaving behind harmful plastic waste.
